Landscape has traditionally been related to the sense of sight, but hearing, smell, taste or touch can also be just, or more, important than sight when perceiving and living a particular landscape. This conference will concentrate on soundscapes as a prelude to an international seminar to be held later and which will discuss other types of sensory landscapes. The sound of a place forms part of its identity and is an essential dimension of its landscape. How are these sounds studied and classified? How do they evolve? Where are the soundscapes of Catalonia and what are they like? This seminar presents some of the most successful experiences in Catalonia and discusses perspectives and proposed methods.
