CATALONIA

Institut del Paisatge Urbà i Qualitat de Vida
Autonomous body of Barcelona City Hall which, since 1997, has promoted and directed actions concerned with the urban landscape in Barcelona.
Parcs i Jardins de Barcelona
Organ of Barcelona City Hall which manages the urban green zones of the city, from their planning to their maintenance, including aspects as varied as the restoration and design of spaces and street furniture, environmental training and education.
General Sub-Directorate of Territorial Planning
General Sub-Directorate of the Catalan Government attached to the Territorial Planning Secretariat of the Ministry of Land and Sustainability, which has an area specialising in the implementation of landscape policies in Catalonia, in accordance with the principles of the European Landscape Convention.

SPAIN

Centro de Estudios Paisaje y Territorio
Centre set up in 2005 and attached to the Andalusian Research, Development and Innovation plan with the objective of extending cooperation between the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the public universities of Andalusia and to promote interaction between the respective lines of activity and research in landscape matters and spatial planning.
Euskadiko Paisaia
Web section of the Department of Environment, Land Planning, Agriculture and Fishing of the Basque Government focused on landscape catalogues and guidelines currently being created in the Basque Country.

FRANCE

Conservatoire du littoral
Public body of the Ministère de l'écologie et du développement durable (Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development) created in 1975, member of World Conservation Union (IUCN), which buys coastal land in order to protect natural spaces and landscapes.
Fédération nationale des CAUE (conseils d'architecture, d'urbanisme et de l'environnement)
Government body offering information, advice, sensitisation, training and initiatives related to architecture, urban planning and the natural environment. One of its lines of work is landscape. It has undertaken, among other projects, the Atlas des paysages de Franche-Comté.

GERMANY

Landschaftsplanung
The Urban Planning Department of Berlin City Council, with a specific focus on landscape management / planning. Its analysis of the urban landscape of Berlin is particularly noteworthy.

IRELAND

Heritage Council
Government body of the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government created in 1995. It works on proposing policies for the identification, protection, care and improvement of the natural heritage, and on promoting knowledge of the urban and rural Irish landscape.

ITALY

Direzione Pianificazione e Gestione Urbanistica (Regione piemonte)
Department in charge of landscape matters in the Piedmont Region. In the landscape section one can find various guides on landscape quality. (http://www.regione.piemonte.it/sit/argomenti/pianifica/pubblic/guide.htm). Also the whole of its newsletter Il territorio informa and its magazine La Rivista dell'Urbanistica can be consulted (number 4 is entitled: Il paessaggio nel governo del territorio).
Natura e Paesaggio
Section of the Dipartimento all'urbanistica, ambiente ed energia (Department of Town Planning, Environment and Energy) of the provincial administration of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano–Alto Adige, in charge of the preservation of nature and the landscape. The web site includes information on landscape planning and legislation in the area and on assistance in the landscape preservation of rural areas and the protection of natural areas.
Servizio Valorizzazione e Tutela del Paesaggio
Unit of the Emilia-Romagna regional government which takes care of landscape protection in the region. The website includes a link to the regional territorial plan for landscape in this region.

LIECHTENSTEIN

Amt für Wald, Natur und Landschaft (AWNL)
Liechtenstein government office dedicated to the preservation of the forests, nature and landscape. Oversees the preservation of biodiversity and the development of rural areas.

SWITZERLAND

Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN)
The Nature et Paysage (Nature and Landscape) Division of the Office Fédéral de l'Environnement, des Forêts et du Paysage (OFEFP) is the Swiss Confederation's specialised service in matters of nature and landscape. The website offers information on the Federal Inventory of Landscapes and Natural Monuments of National Importance (principal figure in the management and protection of the Swiss landscape) and diverse information on landscape and the elements that condition it.

UNITED KINGDOM

English Heritage
Government agency which has the function of preserving the historic British landscape. Collaborates closely with the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs of the U.K. government and the Countryside Agency in matters related to landscape.
Natural England
The body bringing together English Nature, the Countryside Agency and the Rural Development Service with the aim of conserving and valuing nature in the United Kingdom for its intrinsic value, and for the wellbeing of people, the quality of life and the economic prosperity it may bring.
Scottish Natural Heritage
Government agency responsible for the preservation of the Scottish natural heritage and landscape, and promoting training and people's relationship with the natural environment.

ITALY

Osservatori regionale per il paesaggio del Veneto
Body for the monitoring and assessment of landscapes, created by the Direction of Urbanism and Landscape of the Veneto region.

INTERNATIONAL

Consortium Européen sur l'Economie du Paysage (CEEP)
The consortium was founded by a group of European researchers and its purpose is to develop a common research platform on various aspects of landscape economics. Although the consortium will focus on economic aspects, it is open to other disciplines working on landscapes, in particular ecology, sociology, geography and law.
European Landscape Convention Secretariat
Unit of the Council of Europe which handles the implementation of the European Landscape Convention. The website has links to numerous European and international institutions which work on landscape, a complete schedule of events around the world, including conferences on these matters organised by the Council of Europe, among others.
The European Institute of Cultural Routes
Body attached to the Council of Europe which since 1997 has developed its programme of cultural itineraries. One of the cultural itineraries is specifically centred on parks and gardens and the European landscape, although there are other itineraries related to landscape.
